PWA dead or alive?!

When we were asked if we could create an app to accompany a website we were going to build, we off course said: "No problem". With Drupal we can accomplish everything! And there is the PWA functionality with a tool called pwabuilder. They say it's easy, so then it must be easy, right?! But wait: PWA's are oldfashioned tech that is deprecated by Apple and not supported widely these days? Or isn't it?

During the process we bumped across a few problems. For example: sending pop-up notifications with the website to the app on all different platforms. Or even a simple thing as getting a "https://whatsapp"-link to open whatsapp on iOs. Or how to accomplish a different styling for the pwa and the website.

Then in retrospective: was PWA the best way to go? Or should we have considered other options and is PWA really dead?
